Play is important for all children, but the right type of play is especially important for children with autism as they learn and develop new skills. With this in mind, 75 Vivint volunteers recently built a sensory playground for the ABI (autism and behavioral intervention) center in Draper, Utah.
Volunteers spent three days and built and installed a playground that will be safe, fun, and affective for the children learning important life skills at the center. The new playground includes a swing set, climbing wall, balance beam, art station, ball drop, chimes and gong, a reading nook, and other outside games.
“Every item placed in the sensory playground has a specific purpose in helping the children develop a certain skill or sense,” volunteer coordinator Michael Sproul said.
The sensory playground is Vivint’s second project for the center. Vivint employees volunteered at ABI earlier this summer by helping with skills activities. Vivint looks forward to a continued partnership with the center.
“ABI is an amazing center. We definitely plan to have more projects there,” Melanie Rossiter, Vivint Gives Back Operations Specialist, said.
